What is Hidroxinua 25®?

Hidroxinua®25 is a food supplement based on a highly concentrated extract of Hydroxytyrosol (HT), a natural phenol extracted from olives (25 mg of HT per softgel). HT is responsible for the characteristic bitterness of olives and extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), exhibiting a very high antioxidant power (possibly one of the highest ones known).

Hidroxinua25 provides an adequate antioxidant power against the oxidative load resulting from excessive free radicals.

Remark: in EXtra Virgin Oline oil (EVOO), the amount of HT/litre is equivalent to 5 capsules of Hydroxytyrosol; in the case of Virgin Olive Oil (VOO) to 3 capsules (and 2 capsules in the case of a Refined Olive Oil).

Olives and olive oil are one of the main landmarks of the Mediterranean diet. Within olives, Hydroxytyrosol (HT) is one of its most outstanding phenols, a type of substances widely distributed in the plant kingdom that contribute to the social relationships of a plant with their environment (ie. defense, attraction of pollinating insects, etc.).

Hydroxyryrosol is one of the most powerful natural antioxidants known to date, exceeding the antioxidant power of well-known ingredients (ie. CoQ10, vitamin C, E, green tea, grape seeds, astaxanthin etc.).

NoteFree radicals (FRs) are electrically unstable molecules which are naturally produced by living organisms under physiological conditions throughout the organism. In modest amounts, FRs have important signaling roles in body systems. However, an overload of FRs often results in a deleterious effect to body cells and tissues, on a process known as Oxidative Stress (OS). This is the reason why a right antioxidant supply is relevant in order to contain the potential damage that too many FRs can cause.

✓ It supports cardiovascular health by preventing plaque formation (ie. in aterosclerosis) (*). It can also improve the blood’s fatty profile and the celular and tissue oxygenation, which can be quite noticeable in people who practice sports regularly.

✓ It affords great protection in neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases, where high levels of free radicals (FRs) have been detected in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). (*) In 2011 the European Food & Safety Authority (EFSA), acknowledged the benefits of HT in preventing the oxidation of LDL cholesterol (popularly known as ‘bad cholesterol’). Oxidised LDL ‘gets stuck’ to the inner lining of blood vessels obstructing blood circulation (known as artheriosclerosis when it affects small vessels and atherosclerosis if it affects larger ones) and is the common feature of numerous cardiovascular alterations.



ORAC (Oxygen radical absorbance capacity), is perhaps one of the most widely used parameters to measure the antioxidant power of a given substance or food. The ORAC5 value measures the antioxidant power of a substance against the 5 most important free radicals (FRs) present in biological systems (ie. singlet oxygen, superoxide anion, peroxide, peroxynitrite and hydroxyl). It should be noted that not all antioxidants necessarily attack these 5 FRs. Some antioxidants may attack only 2 of the 5 FRs, or attack 3 or all 5. Also, the intensity of the attack to one specific FR may vary between substances. Therefore, each antioxidant substance has its own ‘antioxidant fingerprint’, which is important to know in order to choose the adequate antioxidant for each health problem

The ORAC5 value of HT is superior to that of well recognized antioxidants such as anthocyanidins (blueberry), resveratrol (grapes), epicatechins (green tea), ellagic acid (pomegranate), Co Q10 or vitamins C and E, among others, making it a great neutralizer of free radicals.More specifically,the natural olive extract in Hidroxinua®25, has an ORAC5 value beyond 50.000 µmol TE/g (according to an analytical test run by Brunswick Laboratories, USA), thus becoming one of the highest values known for a natural substance.

Hidroxinua®25 has managed to concentrate a great antioxidant potential in one single capsule.


Oral Use.

+ Nutritional dose: 1 capsule a day with a meal. This single dose would comfortably cover the antioxidant needs of a person, specially if no fruit and/or vegetables are taken regularly.

+ Supranutritional dose: beyond the nutritional dose, greater benefits would be obtained. Take 1 capsule during breakfast, lunch and dinner (1+1+1) or breakfast and dinner (1+0+1).
